In “Ghost in My Daydream,” dreams and souls are being held captive inside a retro-futuristic world of towering structures, machines and human figures caught within a larger system. ÄSTRA enters that world and begins setting them free.
Out October 5, the song and video introduce Of Ghosts & Circuits, the forthcoming sophomore album from the California-based alternative band founded by songwriter, drummer and producer Guillermo Morales Vitola – and the first chapter of a connected audiovisual story that will continue across the project’s upcoming releases.
Behind the scale of the visual world, there is a song about something far more intimate: missing someone who is no longer there. “The ghost represents longing, the feeling of missing someone you once loved,” Morales Vitola says. “It’s a fictional character inspired by a mixture of past experiences.”
Built around a tense mid-tempo groove, raw guitars, vintage synths, driving bass and solid drums, “Ghost in My Daydream” pulls ÄSTRA’s rock foundation into darker electronic territory. It was also the song that changed the course of the project for Morales Vitola. “It was the first song I wrote when I realized I was about to write a whole album,” he says. “It blends my previous sound with this new group of songs.”
That album looks at the relationships and experiences that continue to shape us long after they are gone, while also reflecting Morales Vitola’s frustration with a culture he describes as increasingly “shallow, selfie and ‘algorithmically’centered.”
The video expands that tension into its own mythology. Rather than placing the band beside the story, ÄSTRA becomes part of it, entering the system and changing what happens inside. “I wanted to explore what it might look like to set a dream free,” says Alex Frejrud of Los Angeles-based creative studio Glampire Labs, who developed the visual concept for the video.
Fronted by Cosme on vocals and Martin Delahaye on bass, ÄSTRA has performed at Vive Latino and collaborated with artists including Enrique Bunbury and Alfonso André from Caifanes.
“Ghost in My Daydream” arrives October 5, 2026. Of Ghosts & Circuits follows in 2027.
